Recent channels have been found in many areas of Mars, and some of these channels seems to be the result of recent water flows. However, it is difficult to reconcile flowing water with the cold temperatures and low pressures prevalent on Mars. Here we see a central peak in Hale Crater, north of the Argyre Basin. This peak is heavily channeled, and all of these channels appear to be very fresh, though it is impossible to date them with certainty. The channels appear to have formed in a soft, dusty material that is likely powdery eroded rock from the peak.
