Large Size Image of Hale Crater Channels [Slow loading image] Note as the image loads there are patches of whitish material associated with some of the channels. Note particularly the white patches near the large channel which meanders down the middle of the image. Click the image to go to the PDS browse page Could water or another volatile be responsible for the channels we see here? Could the whitish material be ice or patches of snow? Why is the surface so soft and apparently fragile? Note that the dune materials seen near the bottom of the image appear to "avoid" the areas of the channels. Could vapor release cause the dark dune formations found here? |
