WELCOME
TO
MARS4ALL

A site dedicated to the little known discoveries already made and the discoveries yet to come from the [formerly] Red Planet...

Three Mars Globes 97 Opposition

These full globe images of Mars were captured by the Hubble Space telescope at Mars opposition in 1997. The color is definitely too red. The planet has a generally mottled ruddy tan appearance to the eye. But at the time these images were made, it was customary to process all Mars images as red as possible. The current fashion is to claim Mars is more a "butterscotch" color... see the image at the bottom of the page (a re-processed Viking era mosaic) for an example.

Mars is a unique and wonderful world, one we are just beginning to explore in detail. Sometimes we will make discoveries, sometimes we will make wildly wrong interpretations.

It's OK to be wrong! Just about everything we're learning is brand new...

This is the Acidalium Hemisphere of Mars taken in 1995 by the Hubble Space Telescope in orbit above the Earth. Acidalium was found to be a relatively "wet" region by the HST infrared detectors...

Crater lake

This is obviously not a crater lake on Mars. It can't be. The atmosphere is too thin and too cold for water to exist on the surface for more than a little while. The interior deposit seen here (click the image for a larger view) is no doubt dust or sand...

The surface of Mars is covered with so many wondrous and puzzling features and formations, it will take many generations of study to come to even a preliminary understanding of what is going on there and what has been going on there for eons. Every visit to Mars by spacecraft has led to more questions, more puzzlement, more astonishment, and more frustration. Mars is not like any other world.

NOTE ON IMAGES: Most of the images on this site originated with the Mars Orbital Camera operated by Malin Space Science Systems (link below). They are used courtesy of MSSS/NASA/JPL. Many of these images have been colorized and cropped by your host, BRFelix. Some images are from the Hubble Space Telescope operated by the Space Telecope Science Institute.

Here are links to a selection of images you might find interesting... Please note, the titles of some of these images are for fun! We know so little about what is really going on on Mars that any conclusion drawn today will likely be overturned tomorrow! Enjoy!
